DIY Academy
DIY Academy
DIY Academy is an informal set of classes designed to help the novice, and beginner wood worker. The classes have a main goal of establishing and growing comfort with the tools being used and the projects completed from these very same tools. DIY Academy's classes are constructed around the participant(s). Meaning, if an individual is more focused on which tools to buy first rather than how to use the tools, then that particular class will focus on shop tools and designs.
What if you already have tools and are comfortable with their operation? DIY Academy also offers classes focused on project design. For beginning woodworkers, building a simple box will present many skills that will be used throughout a woodworker's life. Believe it or not, putting together a 1 ftsq. box is littered with potential landmines. For instance, is the one square foot inside or outside dimensions? What thickness of material is being used and which side will it be taken from when calculating final dimensions? Build a cut-list or not? What joints for construction? Benefits of wood types? And trust me, there are many more.
If you, or someone you know, has ever wanted to build something but you're just not sure how to get started - then DIY Academy is for you. If you want to take your woodworking to the next level - then DIY Academy is for you. If you ever wondered why it is not good practice to use a single mark for measuring - then DIY Academy is for you. If you and a couple of your friends wanted to get started with building - then DIY Academy is for you. If you wanted to spend some time with your child all while learning something new - then DIY Academy is for you. Really, DIY Academy is for anyone!
