FAQs

Common Questions

  1. Shipping? Well, this is not a quick, easy answer. The short answer is, YES, shipping is offered, however. While some pieces can be shipped through conventional means, i.e., USPS, UPS, FedEx and others, some pieces cannot. Therefore, these larger pieces will need to be shipped through common carrier services. Imagine an 18-wheeler pulling up to your driveway. So, while it is possible to ship, it can also be quite costly. Because not only is the shipping more expensive this way, so too is the shipping process needed before a piece even reaches the truck. These larger pieces simply can't be placed into a box and taped up. They will require a custom fabricated piece to be made before any shipping can happen.

  2. Cost? This is a much easier answer. YOUR CHOICE follows a very simple pricing model. And it is no secret either. It is as follows - [(material cost x 1.13) + (hours worked x $75)] x 1.40 = Total cost of build. So really, the largest expense is going to be the materials used and how long it takes to complete. Additionally, after the first two hours of a project have been reached, quarter-hour billing will kick-in. It's worth noting, however, that size is not a good barometer for time. A sofa table that will be painted can be completed in roughly the same amount of time as a detailed, stained frame.

  3. When? Each piece is worked on one at a time. There is no jumping from one project to another. During consultation a time frame will be given. Keep in mind this is the time for completion - once started - not from consult. The best that can be done for time is being told where your piece falls in the work queue. Also, each piece is different in regard to time. The things that influence completion time are finish, size, and materials. Let's just say that SANDING is the most egregious for using time in any project.

  4. Anything off-limits? Yes, and, No. Yes, in a sense that restoration work, or repairs, are not performed at YOUR CHOICE. Restoration and repair are specialty trades and should really be performed by those that have trained in these areas. Additionally, projects that are considered to be beyond YOUR CHOICE's skill level are included in this list. A project will not be sold knowing that it cannot be completed with any level of integrity or knowing it will not meet your expectations. So, what about the NO's? Not really. YOUR CHOICE is open to ALL and any of Y'ALLs ideas.

  5. Expectations? It is important to keep in mind that custom, one-off pieces will have . . . character. Meaning, the pieces are built by a human being and not a machine. Furniture that comes from a box (also known as RTA, or Ready-To-Assemble) is produced in a factory by computer-controlled machines and are shipped all over the planet. Piece "A1" will fit in slot "D3" even though one piece is in Paducah, Kentucky and the other piece is in Pueblo Yaqui, Mexico. Now this doesn't mean that custom furniture is just thrown together. It's just that custom work has that human touch. Sample pieces are available for inspection for those that are new to custom work, or anyone that just simply wants to inspect the work. And this is highly encouraged by YOUR CHOICE.
